What is the difference between the instructional and prep leagues?
The instructional league is intended to be for new bowlers who may not have as much experience/skill as others. It also allows for the use of bumpers. The idea of this league is for the kids to have fun and improve/familiarize themselves with bowling. The prep league is meant for more experienced bowlers and is competition based. It does not allow bumper use.
Is bowling really a sport?
ABSOLUTELY! Bowling can be going out on a Sunday afternoon with your family or friends to just have fun, joining a PYAA program to learn to bowl and compete against other kids, being on the PHSN or PHSC Varsity Bowling team, to becoming a PBA Pro Bowler on the tour. Bowling is currently a Sport in the Pickerington High Schools.
What if I'm not athletic?
Bowling is not a sport of muscle or speed. No matter what your body build, height, weight...You can be a top scoring bowler. Bowling is learning and developing your skills. It is learning the correct approach, swing, follow through, release, and lanes conditions.
What if I've never bowled before?
This is a great place to start. We have new bowlers every year of all ages. We have coaches that will help instruct you the correct ways to bowl.
I'm a new bowler, so how do I compete with someone who has bowled for years?
PYAA Bowling is a "scoring handicap" sport. Handicap is based on 80% of 200. That means if you have an 80 average, you start each game with 96 pins handicap. If your opponent has a 140 average, they start each game with 48 pins handicap.
What is special about bowling?
Bowling is a FUN GAME! These 2 words tell it all.
#1 bowling is to have fun with your friends.
#2 bowling is a game. We teach improving individual skills/achieving goals and being part of a team all at the same time. The game is not over until the last ball is thrown. No tempers or anger allowed. Remember, bowling is a game.
How much does PYAA Bowling cost?
The fees is $155 for the 10 week session plus a fun bowl week. This covers all bowling fees, ball, shoes, banquet and trophies.
When/where do we bowl?
We bowl at Rule3 located at 650 Windmiller Drive, Pickerington.
We bowl on Saturdays mornings with the start time being from 9-11 a.m. depending on the number of sign ups. Bumper bowlers receive 5 minutes practice followed by 2 games of match play, Prep bowlers receive 10 minutes of practice followed by 2 games of match play.
What is practice?
During each practice session you will be instructed on new skills to work on. Your parent or support person will be shown what you are working on so they can watch and help you when you are not at PYAA. Then it is just Practice! Practice! Practice!
Who coaches PYAA bowling?
We have an Education/Development Director who will be assisted by other coaches who will be available each week to work with the kids on the fundamentals of bowling.
